Gokulashtami Festival

Janmashtami is known as Gokulashtami, Sri Krishna Jayanthi,Ashtami Rohini etc is the birthday celebration of Lord Krishna. It is celebrated on the eighth day (Ashtami )of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada (August/September)
Krishna was the 8th son of Devak /Vasudev.We celebrate this festival by fasting and staying till midnight. We prepare Nai Appam, Murukku, Vella Cheedai, Uppu cheedai, sweet Aval and Payasam We decorate the idol and put rangoli and steps.We wait Lord krishna to arrive at midnight and do arathi, recite slokas and do arathi.
In Mumbai people celebrate Govinda Alare. People all over Maharashtra try to break the pot  filled with buttermilk..
